RMH was started after founder Shannon Cox’s sister-in-law, Jewely Del Duca, was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at the young age of 34. Jewely was denied by her insurance company a chemotherapy surgery that her oncologist thought could very well be her cure. Shannon watched what Jewely and her family endured and learned that Jewely’s struggle was not unique.

“Insurance companies do not get to play the part of God and determine when it is time for someone to pass on,” said Shannon Cox, RMH founder. “We believe that life is worth fighting for, regardless of the cost, and if there is an opportunity to help someone fight their cancer, we’re going to try to help them.”

Cancer patients are invited to launch the online community by visiting the foundation Web site and adding their stories and pictures. The goal is to connect patients, survivors and families with others who live in the same community or who have endured similar struggles.
