If children have the ability to ignore all odds and percentages, then maybe we can all learn from them. When you think about it, what other choice is there but to hope? We have two options, medically and emotionally: give up, or fight like hell. – Lance Armstrong

In November of 2011 a sweet four-year old girl named Olivia Carroll was diagnosed with a rare cancer called Neuroblastoma. To beat this awful cancer Olivia has done LOTS of chemo, had a stem cell transplant and battled with VOD (a very serious and life threatening disease on its own). She just received her second round of monochlonal chemo and is doing well.
Meet Vijay ~ An avid outdoorsman from Colorado in his early 30’s with stage 4 osteosarcoma…Visit Vijay's Caring Bridge Page... Vijay started experiencing some pain in his right shoulder.  He assumed a fall he took while skiing or overuse at the gym from lifting weights caused the pain.  Vijay’s girlfriend, Chris, encouraged him to see a doctor when the pain wouldn’t subside.  On April 18th, Vijay went in to see an orthopedic doctor specializing in sports medicine.  The doctor looked over his arm and expressed concerned over the limited range of motion Vijay had.  So the sports doctor ordered him an MRI.  Vijay received the results of his MRI on Friday, April 22.  They found a mass surrounding his right shoulder that protruded from his humerus into his bicep tendon.  Shortly after they discovered the mass, surgeons performed a biopsy to test for cancer. On May 4, Vijay was diagnosed with stage 4 osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.  Test results from a subsequent lung biopsy revealed that the cancer had metastasized to his lungs. On May 25th, Vijay checked into Houston’s MD Anderson and began his first 4-day chemotherapy session.  Due to the nature of the chemotherapy Vijay has been receiving, he must remain in the hospital during the treatment session.  He must also remain in the hospital for a few days after treatment in order for doctors to monitor his red, white, and platelet cell count.  He has 2 additional chemotherapy sessions scheduled (June and July) and he will also likely require reconstructive shoulder surgery to replace his humerus and the majority of his shoulder.
